The petition has been initiated by Libereco – Partnership for Human Rights and it demands the immediate release of the Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski who had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2022. To learn more about Ales, visit the website FreeAles launched by the Belarusian human rights organisation “Viasna”. On the website, you can read about Ales's life-long struggle for democratic values. The website raises awareness about political prisoners and calls for action by providing information on support possibilities. The site is available in Belarusian, Polish, German, English, and French.

Exclude Belarus from Euro-2024!
The petition has been initiated by Libereco – Partnership for Human Rights and Campax and it demands from the UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin an immediate exclusion of Belarus from the 2024 European Football Championship. In reaction to the blatant violations of human rights by the Belarusian regime and Belarus's involvement in the Russian war against Ukraine, the signatories call on the President to set an example for the respect of human rights and demonstarte that he stands by political prisoners of Belarus and victims of the war in Ukraine.

Freedom for Maria Kalesnikava
On 4 June 2023 it was 1000 days that Maria Kalesnikava was innocently imprisoned. On this occasion, our partner organisation Belarusian Community RAZAM e.V. and the People's Embassy of Belarus in Germany started a letter campaign under the title "freemaria" to show the Belarusian regime that Maria is not forgotten. To contribute, you can send a letter to the Belarusian authorities following the instructions provided as part of the campaign.

The Atelier offers help with writing letters to political prisoners: you can draft a message to a political prisoner via an online platform; the team will rewrite your text by hand on a postcard and send it to Belarus by post. The volunteer initiative was launched by activists of the Belarusian Human Rights School and the Belarusian Students's Association in 2020.

For many people who have never lived in a totalitarian dictatorship, it is hard to imagine being arrested for a Facebook like or fundraising. For Belarusian refugees seeking asylum abroad, this underestimation has serious consequences. For example, 98% of applications for political asylum filed by Belarusians in Sweden between 2021 and 2022 were rejected. Neither the migration authorities nor many lawyers understand the extent of the terror to which Belarusians are exposed after the suppression of pro-democracy protests in 2020 and especially after the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. For this reason, the People’s Embassy of Belarus in Sweden, with the support of other embassies and the human rights group Viasna, has prepared a short guide in English summarising the actions that may result in repression for Belarusians. The document is intended to help officials and lawyers assess the level of threat to Belarusian refugees.
